Shippers’ Council urges owners of Lekki Port to adopt tech innovation

The Nigerian Shippers’ Council (NSC) has called for Lekki Deep Sea Port to integrate advanced technological innovations to boost its competitiveness in the maritime sector.

This call was made by the NSC’s Executive Secretary and Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Akutah Pius, during a meeting with the Lekki Port management team at the NSC headquarters.

In his remarks, Dr. Akutah described Lekki Port as a state-of-the-art, world-class facility that has the potential to set a benchmark for excellence in shipping operations, both in Nigeria and the wider region. He reaffirmed the NSC’s commitment to fostering an environment that supports investment predictability, aiming to ensure the long-term sustainability and profitability of the sector.

The Managing Director of Lekki Port, Wang Qiang, acknowledged the port’s status as a Public Private Partnership (PPP) project and stressed the importance of continued investor collaboration to secure the facility’s long-term viability. He also requested the NSC’s support in reviewing the port’s tariffs, citing significant operational expenses that demand attention.

Wang further emphasised Lekki Port’s dedication to investing in infrastructure, attracting new investors, and achieving transshipment goals, aligning with the broader objectives of the Renewed Hope Agenda.

The meeting provided a platform for both parties to explore potential areas of collaboration, with the shared goal of enhancing the competitiveness and efficiency of Nigeria’s maritime industry.
