Shell sees bright future for Nigerian companies in offshore developments

Shell Nigeria Exploration and Production Company Ltd (SNEPCo) has urged Nigerian companies to capitalise on expanding opportunities within its offshore and shallow water oil and gas ventures to boost their growth and expertise.

Speaking at the 5th Nigerian Oil and Gas Opportunity Fair (NOGOF) held in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, SNEPCo Managing Director Ronald Adams said projects such as Bonga Southwest Aparo, Bonga North, and the Bonga Main Life Extension present significant potential for Nigerian businesses that commit to securing higher-value contracts.

“SNEPCo pioneered Nigeria’s deepwater frontier with the Bonga development, marking the country’s first deepwater oilfield exploration and production venture,” Adams stated through Head of Supply Chain, Charles Oranyeli.

“Our operations have greatly benefited Nigerian companies, and we encourage them to prepare themselves to capture more opportunities.”

Adams noted that Nigerian firms have opportunities to enhance their capabilities and continue providing services in areas including logistics, drilling, fabrication, subsea manifold construction, mooring and loading systems, pressure vessels, and gas processing equipment for deepwater operations, as well as procurement and civil works in shallow water environments.

Since commencing production at Bonga in 2005, SNEPCo has supported Nigerian contractors and service providers to expand their capacity by developing systems and a skilled workforce aimed at delivering projects safely, on time, and within budget, not only across Nigeria but also within the West African subregion.

These efforts have enabled Nigerian companies to assume leading roles in the safe and efficient operations of the Bonga Floating Production, Storage and Offloading (FPSO) vessel, which celebrated the production of its one-billionth barrel of oil from the field on February 3, 2023.

Adams further remarked, “SNEPCo regards Nigerian content development as a key business driver rather than merely a regulatory obligation, and we remain committed to supporting our local companies to expand their contributions to oil and gas operations.”

The three-day NOGOF event is organised by the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB) under the theme: “Driving Investment and Production Growth: Shaping a Sustainable Future for Nigeria’s Oil and Gas Industry Through Indigenous Capacity Development.”

SNEPCo is a sponsor of the event and is hosting an exhibition that showcases its contributions to Nigeria’s economic and community development.
