Seven Ogun secondary school students beat up teacher for not allowing them to cheat

A teacher with Isanbi Comprehensive High School, Ilisan Remo, in Ikenne Local Government area of Ogun State, one Kolawole Sonuga was allegedly given beating of his life by seven dare-devil students of both Senior Secondary School one and two led by one Kazeem Adelaja.

Kolawole Sonuga was said to have allegedly prevented the students from cheating while writing Geography/Economic/Trade subjects last week Tuesday during the Ogun State Unified Promotion Examination for Secondary Schools in the state.

This daring students were said to have been infuriated by this action of the teacher who actually supervised them during the examination and had therefore threatened to take their pound of flesh.

Sonuga was said to have been on his way home when the students laid ambush for him and beat him to a pulp before some members of the public rescued him.

The police were said to have intervened and arrested about 15 students over the ugly incident but only seven of them were charged to court.

Those charged to court were Adelaja Kazeem, Asimiyu Adedimeji, Somefun Timileyin, Awolaru Ayoka, Ogunbayo Taiwo, Mudashiru Fawaz and Audu Samson.

The Chairman, Ogun State Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM) who is incidentally from the town, Evang Olalekan Ifede confirmed the incident to our Correspondent saying that there was no two ways to it, any student found on the wrong side of the law would definitely not go unpunished.

It was learnt that the students were arraigned before a Sagamu Magistrate Court on Friday.

Meanwhile, the state government has said no acts of indiscipline of any form would be condoned from the learners in either primary or secondary schools across the State.

The Special Adviser to the Governor on Education, Science and Technology, Prof. Abayomi Arigbabu gave this warning in Abeokuta, while receiving the new Executive of the Mathematical Association of Nigeria (MAN), saying the judiciary and the police had been contacted to support the Ministry in War Against Indiscipline and Truancy in schools.

Arigbabu cited an instance of some students of Isanbi Comprehensive High School, Ilisan, who were apprehended for beating a teacher, commending the Mathematical Association for joining hands with the government in moulding the lives of the learners.
