Seven Ogun APM lawmakers return to APC

Bankole Taiwo, Abeokuta

All the seven members of Ogun State House of Assembly elected under the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) on Thursday announced defection to their former party, the All Progressives Congress (APC) during the house sitting at the Assembly Complex, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.

The Speaker, Rt. Hon. Olakunle Oluomo while reading their letters of defection, stated that the lawmakers in their correspondences, noted that they took the decision after due consultation with their leaders and constituents.

Oluomo, who said he was happy to note that things are getting better in the State under the Prince Dapo Abiodun led administration, as all the seven members elected under the APM had decided to move to the mainstream, urged other opposition members to emulate them.

The lawmakers, who defected are Modupe Mujota representing Abeokuta North State Constituency, Musefiu Lamidi from Ado-Odo/Ota II and Amosun Yusuf from Ewekoro State Constituency.

Others are Hon. Ajayi Bolanle representing Yewa South, Hon. Ganiyu Oyedeji from Ifo II State Constituency, Hon. Ajibola Sikiratu from Ipokia/Idiroko and Hon Ademola Adeniran from Sagamu constituency II.

It would be recalled that the immediate past governor of the state, Sen Ibikunle Amosun, during the build up to 2019 general elections had led his loyalists out of APC to APM due to his insistence to have his godson, Hon. Adekunle Akinlade as the APC governorship candidate of the state whereas the party had maintained that the incumbent governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun having won the party primaries remained its candidate.

Though, the former governor contested his Ogun Central senatorial election on the platform of APC and won but he had urged his loyalists to move to APM and campaigned vigorously for the party’s governorship candidate, Hon. Adekunle Akinlade who lost the election APC.

With this defection, the 26 membership of the state house assembly now consists of 22 APC lawmakers,  three African Democratic Congress (ADC) and a member from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).

Speaking shortly after announcing their defection, the lawmakers including Honourables Ajayi, Mujota and Oyedeji thanked their leaders and constituents for the opportunity to serve, assuring that they would continue to give quality representations for the benefits of their constituents.

They assured that in spite of being former members of the opposition party in the State, the Assembly remained united and their commitment was for the overall benefits of the people of the State, which they acknowledged was being attended to by the State Government.
