Senator Omisore to headline 31st Engineering Assembly

The Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN) has invited former deputy governor of Osun State, Senator, Engineer Iyiola Omisore, FNSE, FAEng, CON as a Special Guest of Honor to declare open the 31st edition of the COREN’s Engineering Assembly slated for August 7th – 9th 2023 at the international Conference Centre, ICC, Abuja.

The distinguished senator who until recently was the National Secretary of the ruling party the All Peoples Congress, will be required to speak on the theme for this year’s Assembly, “Entrenching and Strengthening Engineering Practitioners’ Code of Conduct for Resilient Engineering Practice in Nigeria.”

In a letter of invitation duly signed by the President of COREN, Engr. Sadiq Zubair Abubakar, FNSE, FAEngr, Otunba Omisore was described as an ambassador of engineering profession.

“You shall be required to give a short speech on the conference theme at the opening ceremony. The Council appreciates the good work your Excellency has done as an ambassador of Engineering. While serving as Senator at the National Assembly, and when serving as the APC’s National Secretary, you have served the nation meritoriously. You have delivered a lot in various capacities especially in the provision of basic infrastructure facilities for the generality of the people of Nigeria.

“We will be glad to tap from your wealth of experience as an entrepreneur engineer who has done so much in consultancy for private and public sectors organisations across Africa,”  Engr Abubakar stated.

Various subthemes have been carefully selected to effectively address the theme. COREN, according to the president, is convinced that a robust Engineering Practice in the built environment is a prerequisite and strong catalyst for sustainable national infrastructure development.

COREN as a body, believes that the conference will promote collective ownership of responsibility and better opportunities for the economic development of our country.

According to the president, attendance of the conference is mandatory for all Engineers, Engineering technologists, Engineering Technicians, craftsmen, consulting firms, and contracting firms.

“Attendance of Engineering Assembly is a statutory requirement to satisfy the mandatory requirement for Continuing Professional Development (CPD) in order to remain a chartered practitioner that will be on the register of COREN.”

Omisore holds two engineering degrees and a postgraduate certificate from Brunel University Uxbridge, as well as a PhD in Infrastructure Finance from the International School of Management, Paris, France.

He is a Fellow of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, England and Wales, he has undergone several courses in different high-profile institutions including Georgetown University, Washington DC, USA; ABS Academy, Athens, Greece; University of Carolina; West London College; Harvard University and the Internationale Weiterbildung und Entwicklungg GmbH, Germany.

He was conferred with the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE) Presidential Merit Award for Support and Contribution to the Development of the Society in 2007. Also, he was honoured with the Prime Award for Remarkable Contribution to the Growth of Engineering Profession and Society when the NSE was celebrating its Golden Jubilee in 2008.
