Senate refers Buhari’s INEC nominees to committee
The Senate on Wednesday referred President Muhammadu Buhari’s nominees to serve as Resident Electoral Commissioners of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to the Committee on INEC.
The referral followed the receipt of executive communication which was read on the floor of the Red Chamber by the Senate President, Dr Ahmad Ibrahim Lawan, on Tuesday.
On Wednesday, Senate leader, Senator Yahaya Abdullahi Abubakar, called for expeditious action in view of the urgent need to fill gaps of the affected states before the 2023 general election.

That the Senate do consider the request Mr President and Commander-in-Chief on the confirmation of the nominations of the following persons for appointment as National Commissioners and Resident Electoral Commissioner for Independent National Electoral Commission, in accordance with paragraph 14 of part (1) of the third schedule to the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 as amended,” it read.
1.Mal. Mohammed Haruna – National Commissioner (North Central)
2. Mrs May Agbamuche-Mbu – National Commissioner (South South)
3. Ukeagu Kenneth Nnamdi – National Commissioner (South East)
4. Maj. Gen. A.B. Alkali (rtd) – National Commissioner (North East)
5. Prof. Rhoda H. Gumus – National Commissioner (South South)
6. Mr Sam Olumekun – National Commissioner (South West)
7. Olaniyi Olaleye Ijaleye – Resident Electoral Commissioner (South West)
The Committee, chaired by Senator Kabiru Gaya representing Kano South Senatorial district, was asked to revert to the committee of the whole with its reports in two weeks time.
