In a related move, the House of Representatives has demanded an immediate reversal of the recent increases in petrol and cooking gas prices. This action, initiated by Deputy Minority Leader Aliyu Madaki and supported by 111 other lawmakers, reflects growing concern over the economic strain these hikes are imposing on Nigerians.

Deputy Minority Leader Madaki stated, “The rising prices are inflicting hardship on Nigerians and jeopardising job security across various sectors.” He underscored the urgency of the situation, calling for intervention from the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) and the Ministry of Petroleum Resources to enhance local refining capacity.

The House also urged the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to implement monetary policies aimed at mitigating the adverse effects of the fuel price increase on inflation. The lawmakers emphasised that “the rising prices must be addressed to prevent further economic destabilisation.”
