SEMA distributes foodstuff to eight officials of IDP Camps in Benue

The Benue State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) on Friday distributed trucks of rice and Noodles worth hundreds of millions procured by the Benue State Government to eight official  and non official of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) camps in the State.

Benue State  SEMA Executive Secretary  Dr Emmanuel Shior  performed the distribution ceremony  at the agency’s headquarters in Makurdi, explained that the IDPs were increasing on daily basis following the continuous attacks on the State farming population by suspected herders.

The ES  further explained that the foodstuff compromise of 10kg bags  of rice and cottons of in domine  would be distributed to the eight official IDPs camps in the State.

He said the foodstuff would also be extended to IDPs in Gbajimba, Agasha, Udei, Agagbe, Aondona, Agatu, Kwande and other areas that were not staying in official camps.

“We have IDPs in eight official camps but recently we discovered IDPs in other locations like Gbajimba, Agasha, Udei, Agagba, Aondona, Agatu, Kwande and few other places which has to be catered for.

“It has not been easy for the State Government alone to continue catering for the wellbeing of these people following the high cost of food items today,” ES explained.

He called on spirited individuals and groups to as well reach out to the less privileged Nigerians particularly Benue citizens who IDP Camps have become their homes due to the continued attacks by Armed Fulani herdsmen on  their ancestral homes.

Shior explained that aside the IDPs the State was also battling with over 10,000 Cameroonian refugees in Kwande Local Government Area.

He commended the Federal Government for its continued support for disaster victims in the State through NEMA.

On the issue of 2021 flooding, Dr. Shior assured that the State Government was doing everything within its powers to mitigate the possible effect of flood on Benue population.
