SEMA confirms four deaths in Bauchi flood

The Bauchi State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) has confirmed that four people have died due to recent flooding in the state.

The floods have caused significant damage, destroying homes, submerging farmlands, and washing away parts of the Kano-Maiduguri expressway.

In an interview on Wednesday in Bauchi, Mr. Masud Aliyu, the Director-General of SEMA, reported that the flood affected Shira, Giade, and Katagum Local Government Areas following recent heavy rains.

He noted that the floods left thousands homeless, submerged farmlands, and severed roads, including the Giade-Isawa route and the Kano-Maiduguri expressway.

Aliyu mentioned that the state government has deployed contractors to repair the damaged road sections to ensure alternative routes for travelers.

He urged the public to follow the warnings issued by the Nigeria Meteorological Agency (NIMET) regarding the potential for further flooding.

The damaged section of the Kano-Maiduguri expressway has disrupted the movement of goods and services in the region, which connects Kano, Jigawa, Bauchi, Borno, and Yobe in the North-East.
