Otunba Segun Showunmi, a PDP governorship candidate in Ogun State has strongly condemned Gov Kayode Fayemi of Ekiti State for describing Gov Dapo Abiodun as ‘Eleyi of Ogun State’.
Otunba Segun Showunmi, in a statement on Wednesday disclosed that the citizens of the state won’t take kindly any attempt for anyone no matter how highly placed to give any derogatory or mishievious appellation to the highly exalted office of the governor of Ogun State.
Fayemi, according to media report, on Tuesday had during the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship campaign in Ekiti State called Gov. Dapo Abiodun who had attended the event alongside Gov Babajide Sanwoolu of Lagos State as well as Gov AbdulRahman AbdulRasaq of Kwara State, as Eleyi of Ogun State.
Showunmi revealed that it was bad enough for the presidential candidate of the ruling party, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu to have about two weeks ago, during his visit to the state while seeking the support of the party’s delegates towards his presidential aspiration to have infamously and in a despicable manner referred to Gov Abiodun as ‘Eleyi’ meaning ‘this one’ describing this appellation as totally unacceptable.
The one time Spokesman to Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, the 2023 PDP presidential candidate stated further that while we are still shaking off this unwarranted embarrassment from Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Gov Kayode Fayemi who he described as ‘under performer’ also has the temerity to insult further the people of Ogun State saying that the residents of the state would however not have none of such insult.
While squaring up with Fayemi, Showunmi said “that not-so-funny way of addressing the governor of Ogun is unacceptable and must stop forthwith otherwise we will return the favour, a governor is the symbol of the ego of the people he represents and as such, great care must be taken that protocol and diplomatic courtesies must always be in place otherwise undue hostilities will be promoted and in some cases, it leads to unnecessary consequences”.
He disclosed further that “Prince Dapo Abiodun while he remains as governor of Ogun will not be subjected to the butt of jokes in the committee of state for it goes beyond him as an individual, he represents the highly sophisticated, justly proud and historical established peoples of Ijebu, Remo, Awori, Egun, Egbas, Owus and so many others.
“I suppose there is no need to reel out our preeminent personalities and their achievements, that will not be necessary lest we become boastful but suffice to say that no one should address our governor in such unsavoury language anymore
“That he and his team choose to make lemonade out of the sour lemon thrown at them speaks to just how princes don’t fight like slaves. Enough of this Eleyi appellation”, Segun Showunmi warned.
