Security man arraigned over alleged generator theft

A 40-year-old man, Agboola Lekan, on Monday docked before an Ile-Ife Magistrates’ Court over an alleged stealing generator.

The Prosecutor, Insp Sunday Osanyintuyi, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on July 12, 2024 around 12:00 pm at Olajumoke Hostel Ooni Layout, Ibadan Road, Ile-Ife.

Osanyintuyi alleged that the defendant conspired with others now at large to commit felony to wit:conduct likely and stealing.

He stated that the defendant conducted himself in a manner that can cause breach of peace by denying the occupant of the Hostel water by removing the generator for pumping water.

According to him, Lekan stole one Firman generator that valued at the sum of N400,000 that belonged to Precious Oladeji.

The Prosecutor said that the offence was contrary to section 383 and punishable under sections:249(d), 390(9) and 516 of the Criminal Code, Cap 34, Vol 11, Laws of Osun, 2002.

The defendant, who was not legally represented, however, pleaded not guilty to three-count charge of: conspiracy, breach of peace and stealing.

Magistrate Abosede Sarumi, granted the bail of the defendant in the sum of N250,000 with two sureties in like sum.

Sarumi, adding that the sureties must swear to affidavit of means, resides within the court jurisdiction, emphasised that one of the sureties must be a landed property owner.

She stated further that the second surety must be a taxpayer with three years tax clearance certificate and the duo must possess Nigeria Identification cards, with three recent passport photographs each.

The case was adjourned until Sept 9, for hearing.
