Security: Ebonyi inaugurates Vigilante group, charges them not to use it to fight perceived enemies

Ebonyi state government has charged its Vigilante group in the state and admonished them not to use their positions to terrorize anybody or fight against perceived enemies in their various villages but rather ensure that they secure  lives and property of Ebonyi people.

Commissioner for Internal security, Border Peace and Conflict Resolution, Chief Stanley Okoro Emegha gave this charge while inaugurating a vigilante group recently at Onuebonyi Inyimagu in Abakaliki Local Government Area of the state.

Chief Emegha urged the group to be committed to their service, stating that their job is to provide security coverage and inform the security agencies of any security breach in the area.

He said that the inauguration of the vigilante group was in compliance to the state governor, Chief David Umahi’s directive  that all communities in Ebonyi State should beef up their security network.

Speaking earlier, the Chairman of Abakaliki Local Government Area, Hon. Emmanuel Nwangele who was represented by the Coordinator of Abakaliki Development Centre, Hon. Ekene Edeh, commended the leadership of Onuebonyi Inyimagu village for setting a precedent that others will follow,.

Edeh explained that security is everybody’s business and as such all hands must be on desk, noting that days are gone when people relax and wait for the government for their security.

He stated that the governor has advised them to take security as their number one agenda and implored them not to disappoint the villagers who entrusted the responsibility unto them, warning that they should  avoid any fake information or false alarm.

In his acceptance speech, the Chairman of the vigilante group, Mr. Nwiboede Chukwuma on behalf of his group thanked the villagers and the State Government for the trust reposed on them, pledging their commitment to the service.
