Security arrests man, 75, for raping six-year-old great-grand niece

The security operatives have arrested one Musa Gambo, aged 75 of Gandun Sarki Quarters, Malam Madori Local Government Area. The man was arrested by the personnel of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Jigawa State Command on an allegation of rape against a six year old girl, who happens to be his great-grand niece.

He was arrested following a report by a social worker, who is a member of Hadejia Women Foundation (name withheld), who claimed to have received a call from one Maimuna, a family friend to the victim that she caught the suspect red-handed while she paid visit to the girl’s grand mother.

According to Maimuna, she saw the old man with the girl cuddled in his arms, placed on his laps abusing her sexually in his room that was just at the entrance of the main house. She immediately informed the girl’s grand mother who rushed to the room and also saw same.

Investigation revealed that the suspect, who left home for a very long time and has no family of his own returned  recently and lives with his aged sister who gave him a room in her small apartment.

The aged sister is said to being looked after by her daughter, a niece to the suspect. And the niece has her granddaughter also living with them.

The young girl stated that she was abused severally by her grandmother’s uncle, giving her sweets in return with a threat not to tell anyone.

According to the neighbours, they have been suspecting the accused, but because they didn’t have enough evidence to use against him, they chose not to report the case to the authorities.

They said he has a close bond with young children especially girls as he is used to giving them sweets.

According to the Medical report obtained from the Sexual Assault and Referral Center (SARC),  Dutse General Hospital where the girl was taken to for medical examinations, it showed evidence of sexual abuse. Drugs including Antibiotics and Analgesics were administered to the young girl.

The suspect confessed to the crime and attributed it to the work of the devil, demanding forgiveness from his sister and niece.

He will be charged to court of competent jurisdiction as soon as all investigations are concluded.

Meanwhile, the general public are advised to always say something when they see something. They should not wait until it happens. Parents should be conversant with changes in their ward’s behaviors and scrutinise those they relate with.
