Save my daughter from circumcision — Man cries out

A distraught middle aged man has raised alarm that some Elders of a village (name withheld) in Isin LGA Kwara State are threatening him to produce his daughter, Masoudah Oluwatetisimi Ogunbiyi, for circumcised in accordance to family tradition.

The clan being a royal family pride themselves in the act of which they feel will allow their girl child to maintain their virginity until marriage.

One Chief Yisa Ogunbiyi is said to be the one threatening life of the mother Bilikis Mopelola Ogunbiyi for failure to willingly produce her first daughter Masoudah Oluwatetisimi Ogunbiyi so the family tradition of female circumcision could be carried out on her.

He stated further that because he is enlightened on the health implications of such act. Officials of the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP), the Agency responsible for protection of vulnerable children, and that also fight against any act of violence against persons, has waded into the matter.

Non-Governmental Organizations like Kick Against Genital Mutilation and others have also shown interest in the case. It is shocking that some people at this age still practice such barbaric and undignifing act which do nothing but violate the rights of a child. This has made the family to turn against her and the threat to their lives.
