Saudi Arabia deportee commits suicide by jumping into stream in Jigawa
A 38-year-old woman who was recently deported from Saudi Arabia, identified as Hajiya Tabawa Ado, has committed suicide by plunging into a stream in Ringim Local Government Area of Jigawa State.
Newsmen learnt that the woman took the decision in order to save herself from persistent harassment from the agent who sponsored her trip to Saudi Arabia.
According to a resident who claimed anonymity, the woman was sponsored by an agent to Saudi Arabia with the agreement that she will pay him back.
“Women and men have been traveling to Saudi Arabia in search of a greener pastures where some women served as house helps.
“She was sponsored to Saudi Arabia and when she arrived there (Saudi Arabia) and saw that she could not bear the kind of maltreatment in the house she was working, she decided to run and in the process, she was arrested and deported back to Nigeria.
“Therefore, the agent has been asking her to pay him back his money which she doesn’t have. I later heard that she drowned in Kafin Kainuwa stream and died”
Spokesman of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, Jigawa State Command, CSC Adamu Shehu, confirmed the incident to newsmen.
He said the incident happened on Monday, Christmas Day, at around 7:45 pm.
“The NSCDC received Information that a 38-year-old woman, Hajiya Tabawa Ado Musa, plunged into a stream called Rafin Kainuwa located at Marakawa Ringim town in Ringim Local Government Area.
“Her corpse was later discovered on Tuesday and was taken to Ringin General Hospital and was confirmed dead by a medical doctor,” he said.
Adam added that investigation revealed that the woman had been suffering from epilepsy for some years.
The woman, who is survived by her husband and children, has been buried in accordance with Islamic rites.
