Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, on Sunday welcomed Prince Harry and his wife, Meghan, to Lagos as they arrived in the state to attend various activities, including a fundraiser for wounded soldiers.

The royal couple was received at the State House, Marina, where the governor addressed the press, praising their efforts in supporting Nigeria’s military personnel, particularly on mental health issues.

Governor Sanwo-Olu described the couple’s visit as “captivating and enlightening,” acknowledging their dedication to the welfare of military men and women. He extended an invitation to the couple, saying they are always welcome to return to Lagos whenever they desire.

The visit is expected to raise awareness and support for Nigeria’s military, with a focus on mental health and well-being.

“We’re honoured to have received them at the State House here in Marina. We’re excited about all of the ideas and the things that they are planning to do, especially with the office of the Chief of Defence Staff, General Musa, and his lovely wife, who is also here,” He said.

He praised them for their remarkable efforts in facilitating conversations about mental health and illness among military personnel.

“The conversation about mental health issues is something we all experience. The denial and stigmatisation are some of the topics we’ve discussed, and, more importantly, the infectious enthusiasm Prince Harry is known for.

“At what point can we host it in Nigeria? So that the true Nigerian competitiveness can also be reflected in that game. On behalf of all of us in Lagos, we are excited and happy that we found time to be with them,” the governor said.

Governor Sanwo-Olu expressed his confidence that the couple had immersed themselves in Nigeria’s essence and character during their tour.

The three-day visit concludes on Sunday, marking an insightful journey into the country’s cultural tapestry.
