Sanwo-Olu vows to accelerate development across key sectors in 2025

Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has assured residents that more development projects are on the horizon for 2025, focusing on critical areas like transportation, agriculture, healthcare, energy, and the environment.

Speaking on Sunday, the Governor said his administration would build on its achievements and align with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Tinubu, working closely with the Federal Government to bring prosperity to the people of Lagos.

Governor Sanwo-Olu urged leaders at all levels to support the Federal Government in ensuring that the benefits of democracy reach every Nigerian. He emphasised that Lagos State is aware of the shared responsibilities between federal and state governments and that his administration would continue to lead by example, stepping up efforts across all sectors.

The Governor made these comments during the 2025 Lagos Annual Thanksgiving Service, titled “Harvest of Thanksgiving,” held at the Tafawa Balewa Square (TBS) on Lagos Island. The event was attended by prominent figures, including Lagos First Lady Dr. Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu; Deputy Governor Dr. Obafemi Hamzat and his wife Oluremi; Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa; Chief Judge of Lagos State, Justice Kazeem Alogba; former Governor Akinwunmi Ambode and his wife, Bolanle; members of the Lagos State Executive Council; as well as leaders from the legislature, judiciary, security agencies, and faith communities.

At the service, Governor Sanwo-Olu thanked Lagosians for their resilience, particularly in the face of the current economic difficulties. He pointed out that while these challenges are tough, they are necessary for the country’s long-term growth and stability.

The Governor also highlighted President Tinubu’s pledge to address inflation and reduce the cost of living in 2025. He mentioned plans to tackle transportation and healthcare costs while improving access to student loans, consumer credit, and mortgages. In addition, he noted that the Federal Government is focused on strengthening agriculture and food security, with the goal of making essential goods more affordable and achieving self-sufficiency.

Sanwo-Olu made it clear that this work is not just for the Federal Government to handle alone. He said Lagos is committed to doing its part, with his administration stepping up efforts across every sector. He assured Lagosians that his government would continue to set the pace for the rest of the country, ensuring peace, progress, and socio-economic prosperity for all.

Looking ahead, the Governor outlined his administration’s plans for 2025, which include a strong push to improve education, healthcare, security, environmental protection, wealth creation, and social investment. He also emphasised key projects such as the new International Airport, the expansion of the municipal rail system, and the creation of a food logistics hub. Furthermore, he mentioned the implementation of the new Lagos State Electricity Law of 2024, which aims to overhaul the electricity sector and provide reliable, affordable power to homes, businesses, and industries across the state.

Governor Sanwo-Olu also spoke about the upcoming 2025 Local Government elections, which he said would strengthen governance at the grassroots level and promote the autonomy of local governments, aligning with President Tinubu’s vision for a more federal Nigeria.

He expressed gratitude to President Tinubu for the ongoing support Lagos has received, particularly for critical infrastructure projects like the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway, the Sokoto-Badagry Expressway, the planned third metro rail network, the 7th Axial Road, and the 58km Green Line, which will link Marina to the Lekki Free Trade Zone.

In his message, Pastor J.T. Kalejaiye, the Intercontinental Overseer (Evangelism) of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), encouraged attendees to keep giving thanks to God for His blessings.

During the service, the Governor’s wife, Dr. Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, read the first Bible reading from Psalm 98:1-9, while Obasa and Alogba read the second and third lessons from 1 Samuel 2:1-10 and Romans 8:31-39, respectively. Prayers were offered for President Tinubu, the Governor and his family, the Deputy Governor and his family, Lagos residents, and all arms of government.
