Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has called on residents to join hands in building a better future for themselves and generations to come.
He addressed citizens during Nigeria’s 64th Independence Day celebration, emphasizing the need for unity and resilience amidst growing discontent across the nation.
Speaking at the Lagos House Marina, the governor acknowledged the frustrations of Lagosians, particularly concerning insecurity and economic hardships.
“Today, we stand at the dawn of Nigeria’s 64th Independence Anniversary. A moment to reflect on our journey as a nation—its trials, triumphs, and challenges.
“But today, more than ever, we must also confront an unsettling reality: a growing sense of apathy, distrust, and restiveness among our citizens, here in Lagos and across Nigeria,” he said.
Sanwo-Olu acknowledged the challenges and frustrations faced by the people, but emphasized the importance of collective action in creating positive change.
“I understand the sentiments of frustration many of you feel. The challenges we face seem endless: insecurity, economic hardship, and distrust in leadership. These are not just statistics or talking points—they are the lived experiences of Lagosians, the heart and soul of our great state, ” he said
He expressed confidence in the potential of Lagosians to build a better future, highlighting their strength, resilience, and creativity.
Sanwo-Olu outlined his administration’s commitment to transparency, communication, and partnership, stressing that building relationships is key to progress.
He emphasized investments in infrastructure, education, healthcare, and technology, as well as the importance of youth involvement and leadership.
The governor concluded by urging Lagosians to rise above differences and distrust, emphasizing the need for unity and collective effort to build a better future.
“Let us rise, Lagos, and show the world the strength of our unity and the power of our shared vision. We can make Lagos a model for Nigeria—a place where every citizen feels valued, secure, and empowered. Let us rise, Lagos, and show the world what we are capable of,” he added.
