Sanwo-Olu unveils online platform to boost job creation, tackle youth unemployment

Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has launched the Lagos State Management Information System (LMIS), an online platform aimed at addressing the challenge of youth unemployment in the state.

The platform was unveiled at the third edition of the Lagos State Employment Summit in Victoria Island, Lagos, on Wednesday.

Sanwo-Olu stated, “Data gathering is key because a lot of states are going to be coming to see how they’ve done it, other states will like to see how it has been done. So we need to be able to have a robust data gathering capability, data reliability as part of the things that are very important.”

The Governor acknowledged that inadequate data collection had hindered the efficiency of the Lagos State Employment Trust Fund (LSETF) in creating employment, and expressed his administration’s willingness to work with investors to create more jobs and train youths to become entrepreneurs.

Fola Adeola, a founding member of Guaranty Trust Company, emphasised the need for government and private individuals to focus on helping youths become entrepreneurs, stating, “Spending taxpayers’ money to create jobs is a smart investment that will yield more tax revenue for the government.”

The Acting LSETF’s Executive Secretary, Feyisayo Alayande, noted that the summit was necessary to scale up efforts in creating decent jobs to meet the growing challenge of youth unemployment.

She highlighted the organisation’s pillars, including employability, access to capital, Lagos innovates, and training arm for technology and business support.
