Sanwo-Olu tasks Lagos traditional rulers on dignity, peace

Gov. Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos state has urged traditional rulers in the state to uphold the dignity of the throne and maintain communal peace and social cohesion in their domains.

Sanwo-Olu gave the advice at the installation of Oba Ganiu Omotayo (Oluyemowo 1) in Igbogbo Baiyeku area of Ikorodu division on Thursday in Lagos.

“It is also important for traditional rulers to maintain cordial relationship with fellow traditional rulers and avoid unnecessary rancor.

“It gives me great pleasure to join residents of Ikorodu to celebrate the installation and present the staff of office and instrument of appointment to Oba Ganiu Omotayo as the Oba of Ewu-Elepe Kingdom.

“Today’s event marks another phase of socio-economic growth, communal peace and development in Ewu-Elepe Kingdom,” he stated.

Represented by Mr Bolaji Robert, Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, the governor reminded the new monarch that “as custodian of our culture and tradition, you must ensure that you uphold the dignity of the throne and maintain communal peace and social cohesion in your domain.”

Also speaking, Mr Sesan Daini, the Chairman, Igbogbo-Baiyeku Local Council Development Area (LCDA), extended his profound gratitude to Sanwo-Olu for his unwavering support and dedication to Igbogbo-Baiyeku communities

Daini said that the event symbolised the continuation of rich cultural heritage, affirmation of traditional values and commitment to the progress and unity of the community.

The council boss urged residents and indigenes to support the new monarch as he embarks on the noble journey.

“it is through our collective effort that we can build a stronger and more vibrant community.

“Elepe town has a rich history known for its culture, tradition and resilience, I believe our new king will further preserve the heritage of our land and foster unity among our people and achievement,” he said.

Responding, Oba Omotayo, appreciated Sanwo-Olu and the council of traditional rulers in Ikorodu division for their endorsement and for making the coronation a reality.

The new traditional ruler promised to discharge his duties in accordance to norms, values and ethics of traditional rules of engagement of Lagos state Council of Oba’s and Chiefs.

He also pledged to abide by the stipulated laws of Lagos state and Nigeria.

Present at the occasion were former deputy governor of Lagos state, Prince Abiodun Ogunleye,  the Ayangbure of Ikorodu, Oba Kabir Shotobi and member, Lagos State House of Assembly, Mr Aro Moshood.

Also in attendance were some traditional rulers in Ikorodu division and chieftains of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
