Sanwo-Olu swears in Olufunke Hassan as Chairman of Onigbongbo LCDA

The Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, on Monday officially swore in Barr. Olufunke Rekiya Hassan as the new Chairman of Onigbongbo Local Council Development Area (LCDA).

In a ceremony held at the Lagos State Government House, Governor Sanwo-Olu congratulated Hassan on her appointment and commended her extensive experience in local government administration and her unwavering commitment to community development.

The governor expressed confidence that her leadership would bring about positive change in the LCDA.

“Barr. Hassan has consistently demonstrated exemplary service to the people of Onigbongbo LCDA. Her deep understanding of the issues affecting the people, her background in law, and her track record of service in various capacities are a testament to her readiness to take this community to greater heights,” Governor Sanwo-Olu stated.

Barr. Olufunke Rekiya Hassan, born and raised in Lagos, has a rich academic and professional background. She holds a Bachelor of Laws (B.L.) degree from the Nigerian Law School, Lagos Campus, and a Master of Laws (L.L.M.) from Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife.

Prior to her swearing-in, Hassan served as the Vice Chairman of Onigbongbo LCDA since 2020, and previously held supervisory roles in Agriculture, Social Services, and Education within the council. She was also the Assistant Legal Adviser for the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Onigbongbo LCDA.

In her acceptance speech, Hassan expressed her gratitude for the opportunity to serve her community and promised to continue her advocacy for citizens’ welfare.

“I am deeply committed to the development of Onigbongbo LCDA, and I will work tirelessly to ensure that our people benefit from responsive governance. I believe in the power of community partnerships and will focus on enhancing infrastructure, improving social services, and empowering the youth,” Hassan said.

Hassan is also a prominent figure in civil society, serving as the South West Social Secretary for the National Young Women in Politics Forum (NYWPF). She is a chartered member of Rotary International, serving as Chairman of Youth Activities for the Rotary Royal Ikeja Ambassadors Club, and is an international member of Amnesty International.

In addition to her professional roles, Hassan is the founder of Elpis Initiative, a non-profit organisation focused on addressing grassroots issues such as poverty alleviation through welfare drives and vocational training programs.

With her wide-ranging experience in both public service and non-profit work, Barr. Hassan is seen as a visionary leader poised to bring a new wave of progress to Onigbongbo LCDA.

The ceremony was attended by notable dignitaries, including members of the Lagos State Executive Council and local stakeholders, all of whom expressed their support for Hassan’s leadership.
