Sanwo-Olu swears in eight new permanent secretaries, urges professionalism, accountability

Lagos State Governor,  Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has officially sworn in eight new Permanent Secretaries, bringing the total number of such appointments under his administration to 111 since assuming office in 2019.

This was disclosed in a statement issued by Gboyega Akosile, Special Adviser to the Governor on Media and Publicity.

The newly appointed Permanent Secretaries include Mr Olanrewaju Bajulaye (Ministry of Arts, Tourism and Culture), Dr Abiola Idowu (Health Facility Monitoring and Accreditation, HEFAMAA), Mrs Aderinsola Olanrewaju (Citizens Mediation Bureau), Mr Tajudeen Mahmud (Ministry of Finance), Mr Wasiu Agbabiaka (Civil Service Commission), and Mr Adebayo Olayinka (Ministry of Wealth Creation).

Additionally, Architect Gbolahan Oki is set to assume office as Permanent Secretary for Urban Development in the Ministry of Physical Planning from 19th May, while Mrs Ajibike Onigbanjo will take on the role of Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, following the retirement of the incumbent.

During the swearing-in ceremony, Governor Sanwo-Olu urged the new appointees to uphold the highest levels of professionalism, demonstrate accountability, show unwavering dedication to good governance, and ensure top-tier service delivery to the people of Lagos.

“These appointments are crucial for sustaining the effectiveness and continuity of our civil service while also reaffirming our commitment to fostering excellence and maintaining high standards within the public sector,” the Governor stated.

“As you step into these roles, I encourage you to approach our administration’s development agenda with renewed dedication, as it continues to serve as the guiding framework for delivering sustainable progress and prosperity to every resident of Lagos.

“With your new positions come increased expectations. You are now custodians of public trust and must lead by example. I expect nothing short of outstanding and results-driven leadership from each of you. Your work must be evident through meaningful policies, efficient service delivery, and measurable outcomes that improve the well-being of our people.

“You must also exhibit unwavering loyalty—not to individuals, but to the broader vision and mission of this administration. Uphold integrity in all your dealings and cultivate a culture of accountability within your respective ministries and agencies.”

The Head of Service, Mr Olabode Agoro, stated that the appointment of the new Permanent Secretaries was necessitated by the need to strengthen the state’s policy implementation framework to further enhance efficiency and effectiveness in service delivery.

The newly sworn-in Permanent Secretaries have pledged their full commitment to the administration’s THEMES+ developmental agenda, expressing their resolve to contribute meaningfully to the continued progress of Lagos State.
