Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of Sheikh Alhaji Muyideen Ajani Bello, a renowned Nigerian Muslim scholar and preacher. Sheikh Bello, who died at the age of 84 on Friday, was a significant figure in the Muslim community and his death has been described as a great loss to the country, particularly to the Muslim faithful.
In a statement issued by Mr. Gboyega Akosile, his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Governor Sanwo-Olu conveyed his condolences to the family, friends, and followers of the late cleric. He acknowledged the invaluable contributions of Sheikh Bello to the propagation of Islam and his influence across the globe.
Governor Sanwo-Olu said, “Sheikh Alhaji Muyideen Ajani Bello lived a fulfilled life, dedicating himself to the service of the people and the advancement of Islam. His passing is a great loss, but we take comfort in the legacy he has left behind. On behalf of my family, the people, and the government of Lagos State, I extend my heartfelt condolences to the immediate family, friends, associates, and the entire Muslim community.”
He further stated, “Sheikh Bello will be remembered for his unwavering commitment to the propagation of Islam, his dedication to honesty, dignity, and moral development, and his contribution to the unity and harmony of our society.”
Governor Sanwo-Olu prayed for the repose of Sheikh Bello’s soul and asked Allah to grant him Aljannah Firdaus. He also wished strength and fortitude to the deceased’s family and loved ones to bear the irreplaceable loss.
