Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has been lauded for keeping his pledge to the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members by distributing ¦ 100,000 each to 4,254 corps members who recently completed their orientation camp at Iyana-Ipaja.
The governor’s commitment, initially made during the NYSC Passing-Out Parade, was fulfilled within three days, with the funds credited directly to the corps members’ bank accounts.
Sanwo-Olu’s quick fulfilment of his promise led to widespread celebrations among the corps members.
Corps members who received the N100,000 from Governor Sanwo-Olu expressed their happiness and thanks in interviews on Monday, calling him a leader who fulfils his promises.
Yunus Abdulkadri Olarenwaju, a corps member with state code LA24B3437, expressed his excitement and gratitude to Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, for fulfilling his N100,000 pledge to corps members.
Olarenwaju, who received the alert, said he was initially sceptical, thinking it was “politics.”
However, he thanked the governor for prioritising their well-being and being a “governor of Welfarism.”
The corps member noted that the money came at the right time, considering the economic challenges faced by many. “It came like a blessing to us that we are able to sort one or two things out,” he said.
Olarenwaju used part of the money to buy sneakers and expressed his admiration for the governor’s commitment to people’s well-being.
“This gesture has encouraged corps members to perform their duties excellently, knowing they have support from the governor and others.
“I thought it was politics, not until I got the alert, and I really thank the governor for putting us first,” he said.
Also, Okoye Ifeoma Emmanuella, a corps member with state code LA 24B 1655, has expressed her surprise and gratitude to Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, for fulfilling his N100,000 pledge to corps members.
Emmanuella described the governor as a “talk-and-do” leader, whose promise came as a surprise. She noted that the money was helpful in tackling transportation costs.
She also praised Governor Sanwo-Olu for his affable nature, recalling how he wore the corper uniform during the Passing out Parade and looked “young and agile.” She described him as a “nice man” who has encouraged other governors and corps members to serve.
She thanked the governor for fulfilling his promise, saying it has motivated corps members to serve with dedication and enthusiasm.
In the same vein, Dr. Nwosu Chidinma Patricia, a corps member with state code LA 24B 0006, has praised Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, for his N100,000 pledge.
Patricia used the money for small businesses, providing much-needed capital. She described the governor as a “father that says and does what he says,” commending his integrity and reliability.
Also, Two corps members, Opara Chinelo Mariun and Alaribe Prince Emmanuel, also expressed their gratitude to Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, for his N100,000 pledge.
Mariun, with state code 3523, said the governor’s pledge greatly impacted her life, enabling her to buy essential items for her mother. She described Sanwo-Olu as a “very good man, a father figure, and a very generous man.”
Emmanuel, with state code 3184, praised the governor’s unexpected gesture, saying it was a surprise that he fulfilled his promise. “It’s not easy for you to say something and actually complete it,” Emmanuel said, commending Sanwo-Olu’s reliability and integrity.
