Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has officially commissioned the newly reconstructed Babafemi Dada link road and bridge, along with the Yinka Folarin, Jamiu Lawal, and Shalom Academy Road Network, located in Alimosho Local Government Area.

In his address to the gathered crowd, Governor Sanwo-Olu highlighted that responsive governance is defined by turning promises into tangible outcomes.

He explained that the successful completion of the road and bridge project is not only a reflection of the government’s commitment to delivering on its promises but also a testament to its ongoing efforts to foster sustainable development through efficient infrastructure.

“This infrastructure project is not just about roads and bridges; it is about improving the lives of Lagosians, unlocking new economic opportunities, and ensuring we build a future characterised by inclusivity and accessibility,” he said.

The Governor also declared an end to the exploitation previously experienced by residents due to the owners of wooden bridges in the Alimosho area. He stressed that the completion of the new road and bridge would significantly improve connectivity in the region.

Sanwo-Olu further emphasised the importance of protecting public infrastructure, urging residents to take ownership of the development to ensure its long-term sustainability.

The project, which began in February 2022, includes a bridge and a network of four roads that provide a direct and shorter route linking LASU-IBA Road to Candos Road in the Baruwa community.

The newly constructed Babafemi Dada link road and bridge, along with the associated road network, now connect the Igando and Ayobo communities, resolving a major transportation bottleneck that had previously forced residents to rely on a hazardous, privately built wooden bridge or face a 10-kilometre detour.

The new reinforced concrete bridge has been designed to withstand environmental challenges, improve drainage, and reduce flooding, while offering safe, reliable access to key roads, including LASU-IBA and Candos roads.

Governor Sanwo-Olu noted that the project aligns with the state’s Strategic Transportation Master Plan and the T.H.E.M.E.S.+ Agenda, with Traffic Management and Transportation being a key pillar.

He also reiterated the project’s positive impact on local economies, revealing that over 342 people have been employed directly, with many others benefiting indirectly through job creation and economic activity in industries such as cement, steel, and solar light manufacturing.

In his call for continued community involvement, the Governor urged residents to take responsibility for the project and ensure its proper maintenance.

He acknowledged the leadership of the China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC) for their role in delivering the project on time and praised the collaboration of traditional leaders, community development associations (CDAs), and other stakeholders.

The Governor also expressed his gratitude for the hard work of the Special Adviser for Infrastructure and his team, who ensured the project met the high standards set by the state government.

The event served as a demonstration of the state government’s commitment to improving infrastructure and enhancing the quality of life for its residents.
