Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has urged the younger generation, particularly the Fellows of the Lateef Jakande Leadership Academy (LJLA), to remain focused, seize the opportunity to share their thoughts and ideas, and maintain resilience, even in the face of adversity, in order to break barriers.
He emphasised that the Academy’s mission is to develop leadership skills and create opportunities for the younger generation to contribute to shaping the country’s future.
Governor Sanwo-Olu made the remarks on Monday when he hosted the second cohort of 30 Fellows of the Lateef Jakande Leadership Academy at a Fireside Chat held at the Lagos House in Ikeja.
Responding to questions from the Fellows, the Governor highlighted the critical role technology plays in information dissemination and across various sectors, making the world more interconnected with greater choices and opportunities.
He explained that the inspiration for the establishment of the Academy stemmed from the recognition of the developmental strides of the late first civilian Governor of Lagos State, Alhaji Lateef Jakande, particularly in the sectors of education, transportation, and housing.
The Governor also noted that he chose to host the Fellows inside the State Executive Council Chamber to allow them to experience the heart of the decision-making process in Lagos State governance. He emphasised the importance of young leaders having access to such spaces where key governance decisions are made.
In her remarks, the Executive Secretary of the Lateef Jakande Leadership Academy, Ayisat Olabimpe Agbaje-Okunade, praised Governor Sanwo-Olu for his commitment to the Academy, which, she said, has greatly enhanced the leadership skills of the Fellows.
During the event, the Fellows assured Governor Sanwo-Olu that they would not disappoint him or the State Government for the significant investment made in their development.
