Sanwo-Olu appoints Chairman, board members for LASERC
Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has appointed a Chairman and board members for the Lagos State Electricity Regulatory Commission (LASERC), marking a significant step in the development of the state’s energy sector. The appointments, which are subject to confirmation by the Lagos State House of Assembly, are aimed at strengthening the regulatory framework for the electricity industry in Lagos.
In a statement released on Monday night, the Governor announced the appointment of five individuals to lead the regulatory agency.
Engr. Abimbola Odubiyi has been appointed as the Chairman/Non-Executive Commissioner. A pioneer commissioner with the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC), Engr. Odubiyi brings extensive expertise in regulatory reforms, the restructuring of the electricity industry, and the design, planning, and operation of electricity markets across multiple jurisdictions.
Additionally, the Governor appointed Dr. Fouad Animashaun as the Executive Commissioner/Chief Executive Officer, Mrs. Kofo Olokun-Olawoyin as the Executive Commissioner, Legal Advisory, Registration, and Licensing, Engr. Oluwaseun Fadare as the Executive Commissioner (Engineering and Standards), and Barrister Bunmi Benson as the Market Operator.
These appointments are seen as a crucial step towards strengthening the regulatory framework for Lagos’ growing energy sector.
