Salem University graduates 41 first-class students

Salem University, Lokoja, Kogi State, is set to confer degrees to a total of 499 students at its sixth convocation ceremony on Friday, November 29, 2024.

The institution’s Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Alewo Akubo, revealed that 41 of the graduates will be awarded first-class honors.

In a press briefing held in Lokoja on Monday, Prof. Akubo highlighted that the students come from various colleges, including the College of Management and Social Sciences, College of Natural and Applied Sciences, College of Humanities, College of Education, College of Communication and Information Technology, College of Law, and the Post Graduate School.

The Vice-Chancellor also announced that the university’s newly accredited College of Basic Health and Medical Sciences would soon begin its operations, further expanding the institution’s academic offerings.

Prof. Akubo expressed pride in the university’s contributions to the development of Kogi State, Nigeria, and the global community.

He emphasised the importance of private universities in Nigeria, urging the Federal Government to provide more support for their continued growth and sustainability.

“The Federal Government should encourage private universities to do more. They are contributing immensely to the nation’s development, and their role is indispensable in our education system,” Prof. Akubo stated.

The convocation ceremony will combine graduates from both the 2022 and 2023/2024 academic sessions.
