Sagamu NBA inaugurates new executives

Barr. Femi Adeniyi, former Chairman of Ikenne local government area of Ogun State was on Monday inaugurated as the Chairman of Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) Sagamu Branch.

Barr. Femi Adeniyi took over from Barr. Felix Adetoro-led executive that had been in charge of the affairs of the association since July 2019.

The inauguration held at the newly commissioned temporary secretariat of the association opposite MTD office, Oba Erinwole road, Sagamu had in attendance many legal titans such as Dr Olumide Ayeni SAN, former Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Ogun State, Justice N I Agbelu, the Administration Judge of Sagamu Judicial Division, Justice C C Ogunsanya and Justice O Y Oresanya

Others are Prof Babatunde Oni from University of Ibadan, Dr Niyi Arije, Head of legal services, Babcock University, Ilisan Remo, Mr Dada Awosika SAN, the Chairman of the occasion and retired Justice P A Onamade to mention but few.

Speaking after taking oath of office administered by Justice O Y Oresanya, Barr. Femi Adeniyi disclosed that he would not only lead by example but also enforce discipline and ensure that his colleagues adhere strictly to the rule of law.

Barr. Adeniyi disclosed further that his leadership would also pursue cordial working relationship between the bar and the bench such that everyone would be seen to be working toward speedy administration of justice.

Promising to ensure that the welfare of the members did not suffer during his tenure, Adeniyi also promised to see to the completion and commissioning of the association’s permanent secretariat, The Bar Centre before handing over to his successor come July 2023.

While appealing for unalloyed support and cooperation of the members of the association, Adeniyi said “our administration will dare the mountain and conquer, it is our resolve to make Sagamu NBA the best and model to others in the country, we shall give it all that it deserves and lift this noble legal profession higher.”

Speaking earlier, the Chairman of the occasion, Mr Dada Awosika SAN described Barr. Femi Adeniyi, his former classmate at Ogun State University now Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU) Ago Iwoye as a brilliant, forward-thinking and resolute lawyer whose wealth of experience would surely assist in bringing significant progress to the association during his tenure.

Mr Dada Awosika SAN has however used the medium to remind the lawyers of the need to uphold rules of law and that whenever the opportunity presented itself they should always be ready to educate Nigerians that the way out of several challenges confronting the nation is not violence, chaos or brigandage as they work against the goal of peace, stability, prosperity, unity that we all seek.

Giving his valedictory speech, the outgone Chairman of the association, Barr. Felix Adetoro disclosed that despite the challenges of COVID-19 pandemic and about three months recently suspended strike of the judiciary workers, his leadership had also brought noticeable progress to the Sagamu NBA in the last two years.

Barr. Adetoro listed some of the achievements of his tenure to include improvement in the ongoing construction of the association secretariat, The Bar Centre, renting of a newly furnished temporary secretariat for the association, improvement in the welfare of the members, closing the relationship gap between the old and young lawyers among others.
