The Vice Chancellor, Rivers State University (RSU), Prof Nlerum Okogbule, in a bid to complete the institution’s ongoing three new campuses, has given contractors handling the projects 47 days with effect from February 9th to complete and deliver the job to the University Management.

Prof Okogbule handed over the ultimatum while inspecting the extent of work done at the sites.

The VC who led high powered delegation to inspect the projects, said the contractors have up to the end of March to complete the projects and hand same over to the University authorities for Commissioning in May.

“Ordinarily I would say you must finish or beat the deadline of March 15th, but from the look of things you have some finishing touches to do. Therefore, we are giving you till the end of March this year to hand to the school Management the projects of our  three new campuses,” the VC said.

He expressed satisfaction with the quality  and standard of job being done by the various contractors.

“Although there were initial challenges, but you can see that almost all the projects have reached 90 or 95% completion. In fact,I want to tell you that I am very very satisfied with the projects.

“What we are doing is in line with Governor Nyesom Wike’s direction and directives to improve and enhance the quality of education in Rivers State University and other tertiary institutions across the State.

“We are hoping that by the end of March, the entire projects would have been ready for commissioning. We are preparing for commissioning in May this year,” Prof Okogbule assured.

In his remarks, Prof (Engr.) Eluke charged the contractors to correct the minor technical errors observed during the inspection.

One of the site engineers, Tamunotonye Manuel assured that the contractors will deliver accordingly, stressing that there will be no excuses or delay.

Recall that in January, 2021 the Rivers State Government gave the  Rivers State University Management the sum of N91bn for the projects.

Our Correspondent who covered the inspection tour, reported that the VC and his entourage visited Faculty of Agriculture at Etche Local Government Area, Faculty of Humanities, Ahoada East Local Government Area and Social Sciences Faculty at Emohua Local Government Area all in Rivers State.
