…Seeks President Tinubu’s intervention
Hon. Rotimi Makinde has decried lopsidedness in employment composition at the Nigeria National Petroleum Company Ltd (NNPC Ltd), Customs and Immigration Services, just as he called on President Bola Tinubu to address the imbalance in the spirit of fairness and national cohesion.
Makinde, a former Federal lawmaker, who represented Ife Federal Constituency in the 7th Assembly made this known in a statement he personally signed on Monday, noting that a cursory look at the list of names of staff promotional lineup in the organisations mentioned above brazenly demonstrate bias in favour of a particular section of the country such that preponderance of the names on the list is from the same geopolitical region to the disadvantage of other regions in the country.
According to the Makinde, “The unjust or prejudicial treatment of different categories of people, especially on the grounds of ethnicity as it reigns in NNPC, Customs and Immigration establishments deserve President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s urgent attention.
“We must do all within the confines of the law to right every wrong to make every citizen of Nigeria believe in the unity of this country. Only in doing just that we would all be proud of this nation as ours.
“This clarion call is not out to apportion blame to any particular section of the country but it’s evident that what is happening in a place like NNPC and other key agencies is worrisome and should be corrected as soon as possible. The act of nepotism among those with power or influence of favouring relations, kinsmen, friends or associates in this system is increasingly worrisome.
“I can’t but to call on Mr. President, an highly detribalised national icon to beam his dispassionate search light on NNPC at this moment, as they plan to do promotional exercise to fill existing vacancies. I know for sure that there is a plan to do promotions exercise to fill the existing vacancies. Many staff are still out there without positions, mostly affected are people from other regions aside those at the top.
“Only in unity, fairness and justice can we progress as a nation and I appeal to our dear President to give national outlook to these aforementioned organisations in line with the guidelines enshrined in our nation’s federal character principle,” Makinde stated.
