Mrs Grace Luka, the new President of the Rotary Club of Jos South, has pledged to provide 200 school children in Jos with bags, books, sandals and uniforms as part of her blueprints during her tenure in office.
Luka who disclosed this on Saturday in Jos, during her investiture ceremony and the induction of new members also promised to build toilets for students of the School of the Blind in Zawan, Plateau.
Luka also pledged to provide 30 typewriters for students of the School of the Blind in Zawan.
“I also intend to empower the girl-child through the provision of sanitary pads and talks on personal hygiene.
“The girl-child would be taught skills acquisition on how to produce reusable sanitary pads, detergent and sanitizers as a means of ensuring that they are financially independent.
The president revealed that as a means of making the club prominent on the Plateau, she would erect the Rotary wheel symbol close to the the State’s government house.
The guest speaker at the ceremony Mr Santos Larab, commended the new president’s visions and solicited support for her in cash and kind to actualise them.
Larab re-emphasised the need for education and health for children especially that of the girl child gender.
Similarly, the Governor of Plateau, Simon Lalong, who is also a member of the Rotary club Jos South, in his remarks, said that the office of the president of the club was not for personal gain but a call to serve humanity.
The governor who was represented by the Commissioner for Solid Minerals, Mr Jude Dakur, pledged his continued support for the Rotary Club in general and Jos South n particular.
