Road accidents claim 33 lives in Edo in two months – FRSC
The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has disclosed that no fewer than 33 people lost their lives in road accidents across Edo State between January and February 2025.
Speaking to journalists in Benin on Tuesday, Edo Sector Commander Cyril Matthew revealed that 15 fatalities occurred in January from 17 crashes involving 119 individuals.
“In February, 171 passengers were involved in 18 accidents, resulting in 18 deaths and 69 injuries,” he stated.
Matthew attributed the crashes to mechanical failures, speeding, reckless driving, mobile phone use while driving, and traffic violations.
He urged motorists to refrain from overloading, drunk driving, night journeys, and excessive speeding to improve road safety.
The FRSC is intensifying awareness campaigns across the state and called on stakeholders to collaborate towards achieving a zero-accident goal.
