Rivers: Unknown gunmen attack security check point at Ikwerre LGA

Unknown gunmen were said to have attacked security check points along Isiokpo-Elele,in Ikwerre Local Government Area of Rivers State, Saturday night, allegedly killing some military, police and Customs officers in process.

When contacted,the Public Relations Officer of Nigeria Customs Service Area 1,Port Harcourt,Oscar Ivra said the officers are under Federal Opey Unit(FOU), Owerri,so he could not give details.

However,the Police Public Relations Officer(PPRO), Rivers State Command,SP Nnamdi Omoni confirmed the incident,but said that details were still sketchy. He further said that the Commissioner of Police, Friday Eboka has ordered full scale investigation into the matter, assuring that perpetrators will be brought to book.

Omoni said calm has returned to the area, pending the outcome of investigation.

“I can confirm the attack on security Personnel along the Omagwa/Isiokpo/Elele Owerri Road. Details sketchy.

“The CP has launched a full scale investigation into the dastardly attack,with a view to arresting the perpetrators and bringing them to justice.

“Meanwhile Area is calm with reinforced and increased joint Patrols of that stretch and other areas in  the State by the security Agencies.

“So far, the State is calm and secure and no cause for alarm,” the PPRO said.

All efforts to reach the Army PRO,6 Division, Port Harcourt,Charles Ekeocha proved abortive, as he neither picked his call, nor replied to text messages sent to his cellphone as at the time of filing this report.
