Rivers speaker commends LG chairman over electricity restoration in communities 

Mr Victor Oko-Jumbo, the Speaker, Rivers State House of Assembly, has commended the Khana Local Government Council for restoring electricity in nine communities in the area.

Oko-Jumbo said at the inauguration of a rural electrification project in Gwara on Thursday, that the communities would now have electricity after eight years of blackout.

He said that Marvin Yobana, the Caretaker Committee Chairman of the council, had made a significant difference within a short period in office.

“I can see the joy in the residents, they have stayed without electricity for almost one decade despite the existence of local council administrations,” he said.

The speaker said that the Gov. Siminalayi Fubara-led government was committed to the wellbeing of the people.

“The current administration’s commitment has been demonstrated by the caretaker committee chairman.

“The governor directed the caretaker chairmen to initiate projects that will enhance the people’s living standard.

“By completing these electricity projects  in Luyor Gwara, Ka-Gwara and other communities, the chairman has fulfilled the governor’s directive, he said.

He also commended Yobana for settling outstanding electricity bills owed the Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Company by electricity consumers in the area.

The speaker urged Ogoni people to maintain peace, and support the state government in fulfilling its promises Rivers people.

Earlier, Yobana said that the project was aimed at addressing the needs of the community, and improving the people’s living standard.

“Upon assumption of office in June, we met with residents of the communities, their major demand was the restoration of electricity.

“It’s unfortunate that Gwara and other communities were left in darkness despite existing electricity infrastructure in the area.

“We are delighted to see that electricity has been restored in these Ogoni communities,” he stated
