Movement for the Survival of the Ogoni People (MOSOP), has elected new National Executive Council members to lead the organisation.
According to a statement issued by the Publicity Secretary of the Organisation, Imeabe Oscar, this marks the end of various splinter groups that have operated under the guise of MOSOP for a while now. The statement said the emergence of the new executive will consolidate the unity of purpose within the Ogoni community.
“The election of the new executive of MOSOP follows the landmark judgment of the Customary Court of Appeal held in Port Harcourt on March 7. The court in its judgment directed the MOSOP Electoral Committee to proceed and finalise its electoral process for the election of executives to lead the esteemed organisation.
“In adherence to this ruling, the MOSOP Electoral Committee (MEC) successfully conducted elections for various vacant offices within MOSOP, including the National Executive Council, Kingdom Executive Councils, and Affiliates.
”These elections took place on March 12 and April 1, 2024 respectively,” the statement said.
At the end of the polls for the National Executive Council of MOSOP, the following persons were elected in the keenly contested election:
They include Prof. (Engr.) Olu Andah Wai-Ogosu (President), Susan Lekara Serekara (Deputy President), Chief Nasikpo Nyidedha Nled (Secretary General), Nubari Dominic (Assistant Secretary) .
Others are Chief Migbara Wilfred Tane (Financial Secretary), Theophilous Dike (Treasurer), Comr. Imeabe Saviour Oscar(Publicity Secretary )and Barr. Nkiri Celestine Nornubar (Legal Adviser).
Oscar said with the successful conclusion of the election process, it is evident that peace and unity have been restored among the leadership of MOSOP and the broader Ogoni ethnic nation.
”The newly elected executives of MOSOP seize this opportunity to extend an olive branch to all sons and daughters of Ogoni who may have previously been at odds with the vision of our founding fathers.
“We urge them to join hands with us in pursuit of peace and development for our communities. Divisions cannot build, it only destroys. As lovers of Ogoni, we urge all of us to join hands to build Ogoni to be an envy of other nations,” the Publicity Secretary said.
