Rivers Governorship Election: I have capacity to win — Abe

By Barth Ndubuwah, Port Harcourt

A governorship aspirant under the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State, Sen. Magnus Abe, said he is contesting the forthcoming governorship  election because he has the capacity to win it.

Abe, a former Senator stated this last week in a consultative meeting with delegates from Port Harcourt (PHALGA) and Obio/Akpor local government areas of Rivers State.

According to him, as a grassroot and consistent politician since 1999, he deserves to be supported by the people to actualise his political ambition, as he contests the governorship seat of Rivers State in 2023.

Abe assured that if given the mandate, he will enthrone a government that will serve everybody in Rivers State irrespective of where you come from, so long as you live in the State.

“If you give us your support, we will form an APC government that will serve everybody in Rivers State. We will form a government that will serve the people before themselves. I joined APC because I thought we could do better than what other parties have been doing. APC can’t afford to choose a candidate that is not part of us,” Abe warned.

He therefore urged delegates from Port Harcourt and Obio/Akpor local government areas to actively participate in the electoral processes preceding 2023 general elections in the country.

The gubernatorial hopeful reminded the delegates that the month of May 2022 is decisive to the outcome of 2023 in that party candidates will be chosen,so it is important that we all participate in the process.

“There is noway that you continue to do the same thing and expect to get a different result. We must therefore participate in political processes leading to the 2023 general elections,” Abe said.

The former Senator said he is supporting Ahmed Tinubu because he saw him as a presidential candidate that can deliver the ‘killer punch,’ explaining that with or without him, he can still contest as Governor of Rivers State and win.

In his remarks, former Attorney General and Commisioner for Justice in Rivers State, Barr. Wogu Boms likened Rivers APC to the biblical fig tree that was cursed by Jesus Christ for lack of productivity.

He therefore prayed that any atom of disunity in the party that will stop it from bearing fruit in 2023 be cast away.

He insisted that every eligible candidate should be allowed to contest election in 2023.

Also speaking former Chief of Staff to then Governor Rotimi Amaechi and South-South Campaign Director to Tinubu, Chief Tony Okocha charged the PHALGA and Obio/Akpor delegates to go all out to support Sen. Magnus Abe to become the next governor of the State, assuring that he will not let them down.

Adding his voice to the issue, a chieftain of APC and former House of Representatives member, Hon Frank Chidi Wihioka said because the people have asked that Abe be made governor, God will grant the request in 2023. He expressed confidence that all the delegates will vote Magnus Abe.
