Rivers: Dynamite explosion rocks APP party’s new secretariat
An explosion has struck the Secretariat of the Action People’s Party (APP) in Rivers State, causing significant damage to the building and its contents.
Eyewitnesses reported that a dynamite was detonated around 1 a.m. on Monday, August 12, resulting in a loud explosion. The blast caused extensive damage, including the destruction of furniture such as tables and chairs, as well as important documents. Windows and doors were shattered, walls were heavily cracked, and floors were damaged.
The incident comes amid ongoing leadership tensions in the state. There is speculation that Governor Siminialayi Fubara is planning to align with the APP, following allegations that his predecessor, Chief Nyesom Wike, who is now the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, has taken control of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Rivers State.
Chimene, an APP member, confirmed the attack to journalists: “Yes, I’m a member of the APP. I was informed about the explosion around 3 a.m. today. It is clearly politically motivated. The APP is rapidly growing in the state, and this attack seems aimed at disrupting our progress. We urge the police to thoroughly investigate and bring those responsible to justice.”
The party is calling for a thorough investigation to identify and apprehend the perpetrators behind the attack.
