The All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) has vowed to beat the ruling party, the Peoples Democratic Party ( PDP) in the forthcoming local council election at Ahoada East Local Government Area of Rivers State.
The chairmanship candidate of APGA in the area, Hon. Newton Gordon Kpasa made the vow in an interview with journalists at Ahoada.
According to him, the incumbent chairman and the PDP chairmanship candidate, Barr. Ben Eke has done nothing in form of development for the past three years of his first tenure and as such does not deserve any second tenure.
He said with the promise by the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC) to conduct free and fair election, come April 17, he is optimistic that APGA will carry the day by unseating PDP in Ahoada East.
Throwing light on his area of concentration if voted into office, Kpasa said his administration will build Trailer Park and International Market in Ahoada East to boost the internally generated revenue of the area.
The APGA Standard Flag Bearer said having campaigned vigorously across all the wards of the LGA,he is confident to floor the incumbent, come April 17,2021.
“We have campaigned across all the wards of Ahoada East. We have also seen all their needs and challenges, which we promised to address holistically if elected into office. We will operate an open door system, where everybody will be carried along. The people will be consulted on their specific needs we embark on any project,”Kpasa said.
He said their only prayer is that RSIEC should live up to expectation as truly independent Commission by conducting a free and fair election.
The APGA candidate queried why the incumbent chairman and PDP candidate is jostling to come back when he claimed that there is no money at the council to warrant development.
“The incumbent chairman said that the funds accruing the council are not enough for development, so why is he struggling to go for second tenure when he has done nothing in three years,” Kpasa asked.
The APGA candidate also promised to pay bursary to Ekpeye students in high institutions if given the mandate.
Adding his voice to the issue,Spokesman of APGA at Ahoada East Local Government Area, Comrd Oyi Ozuka Thompson reiterated the fact that the PDP past three years administration is a complete failure. He said, “the situation is so bad that the council chairman could not even connect light to his community.”
He alleged that council workers are being owed salaries, all the internal roads in the area are dilapidated and still the chairman wants to come back for second tenure. Thompson emphasized that a second tenure is by merit and as such, Ben Eke does not deserve a second tenure.
“Second tenure all over the world is by merit,so a chairman that did not do anything in three years does not deserve such privilege,” Thompson said.
