Revenue collection: Enugu Govt cautions residents against cash payments

Enugu State Government has advised Enugu residents not to make any cash payment to anyone in the name of revenue collection especially in markets.

Prof. Chidiebere Onyia, the Secretary to the Enugu State Government, made the call in a statement issued on Wednesday in Enugu.

Onyia reiterated the government revenue collection process across the 17 local governments of the state through e-ticketing.

“The Enugu State Government hereby advises the general public to take note of this process and comply accordingly.

“Under no circumstance should any payment be made in cash to anyone, especially in markets. All payments must align with the e-ticketing process, and this applies to sellers, and not buyers,” he said.

He added that, “Those who purport to collect revenue on behalf of the state government, especially at markets, forcing buyers to pay fees are illegal collectors, and criminals, sabotaging the efforts of the state government to plug in revenue loopholes.

“Market leaders and taskforce teams should take note of this and apprehend the illegal revenue collectors for necessary sanctions.”
