Retired University Administrator raises alarm over insecurity
A retired University Administrator and Politician in Ondo State, Dr. Gabriel Ayimoro has raised the alarm, claiming that Fulani herders have been on the prowl in his community.
Dr. Gabriel said this in Ibadan, Oyo State where he had run to for safety, while speaking with journalists on the spate of terrorists’ attacks in Ondo State.
His claim came barely two weeks after no fewer than forty- six persons lost their lives in two separate gunmen attacks, at St Francis Catholic Church,Owo and Sabo area of Akure
“Residents of Graceland Area, Ayegunle, Oka, Oka- Akoko in Akoko South West Local Government of Ondo where I reside have been under the onslaught of herders who on daily basis, disturb the peace of the area with their cattles,” he said. Noting that the ‘herders’ activities have become worrisome.
Dr. Gabriel who is the Chairman, Landlords’ Association, Graceland Community explained that unknown gunmen visited his residence NO 1, Ayimoro Close some time ago, broke the windows , before gaining entry into his apartment.
“They pointed gun at my wife, Dr. Oluwatoyin Ayimoro, her mother and my children compelling my wife to open the main door. I managed to escape that night while my security guard was shot. The Police in Akure were aware of the occurrence,” Dr. Gabriel added.
“The herders have vowed to deal with my household after accusing me of confronting them whenever they brought their cattle to graze,” the community leader said.
He explained that the last time the herders visited his house with their cattle, they attacked his wife when she asked them to graze their cattle out of their vicinity, adding “they requested my wife to produce me.”
“My wife, Mrs Olawatoyin Ayimoro, the children, Oluwajomiloju Isaac, Oluwadarasimi Esther, Mrs Oluwatosin Ruth Obi and their granddaughter, Uche Olayimika Obi were threatened by the herders who vowed to repeat their visits to the house.”
Dr. Gabriel said, “I have reported the matter at the Police Area Command, Oka Akoko, for discrete investigation.”
The community leader, with palpable fear explained that people have continued to noticed strange faces around his area, adding, “All members of my family now live with fear and I have instructed my wife to always be security conscious and ensure that she and the children are weary of the activities of the Fulani herders, wherever they are.”
