Resettlement: Borno govt to construct 300 housing units in Biu

The Borno State Government has begun the construction of 300 housing units at Maina-Hari community in Biu Local Government Area of the state, to fasttrack resettlement of displaced persons.

The state deputy governor, Alhaji Umar Kadafur, stated this during the foundation laying ceremony of the project on Monday in Biu.

Kadufur said the state government had embarked on housing projects to resettle households displaced by the insurgents in some communities in the area.

He said the gesture was in line with Gov. Babagaba Zulum’s administration housing programme aimed at accelerating resettlement of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in the state.

Kadafur commended the Federal Government for its intervention and the completion of 4,000 of the 10,000 housing units approved for the state by President Muhammadu Buhari.

In a remark, Alhaji Mustapha Gubio, the Commissioner of Reconstruction, Rehabilitation and Resettlement (RRR), said that 300 semi-detached houses designed with two rooms, a toilet, kitchen and fence would be constructed in the area.

Gubio said that schools, healthcare and water facilities, recreational site, worship center and spaces for other social amenities would also be provided under the project.

He said the project was expected to be completed within four months.
