Reps move to address conflicting interests among MDAs
The House of Representatives Committee on Delegated Legislation, has resolved to address conflicting interests among Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) of Government.
Rep. Femi Bamisile, Chairman of the committee, disclosed this while meeting with some MDAs in Abuja on Wednesday.
Bamisile said: “We need to deal with old and archaic laws in MDAs so as to avoid conflicting interests, the committee is putting up a compendium and a summit to address these anomalies.”
He said the implementation of Oransanya’s report would augur well for the country, adding that its implementation did not suggest that people would be laid off.
He said the committee was set up to address the anomalies in MDAs, where two agencies would be fighting over issues that could have been handled with the requisite laws.
He said the house would henceforth, address the anomaly, adding that “when these laws were made, you take them to the Ministry of Justice, and what the ministry does is just to gazette.”
He said the committee had over 800 agencies to deal with, and three and a half years, adding that “in the past, the law that established agencies were from the national assembly.”
He, however, said that such laws were being brazenly violated, adding that with the new administration, the 10th assembly would change the narratives.
He demanded that MDAs should produce all subsidiary laws that established their agencies, saying, “we need all subsidiary existing laws in yor agencies.”
Dr Abdulwahab Oyedokun, Director, Legal Service, Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), said it was a great initiative, adding that JAMB was obliged to respond fully to all requests by the committee.
“JAMB is a creation of the national assembly; we are ready to receive the committee at the headquarters in Bwari, and we will take you through our operation in conducting our examination and protecting the rights of the child.”
Dr Shuaibu Oseni, Executive Director
The National Film and Video Censors Board, commended the committee for their engagement with the board.
“We welcome the idea of this committee because we follow procedures too. We are going to support the work of the committee and engage.”
Other agencies that appeared before the committee are the Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria and the National Power Training Institute of Nigeria, among others.
