Reps Committee begins grilling of service chiefs
An Ad Hoc Committee of the House of Representatives has commenced the screening of the Service Chiefs nominated by President Bola Tinubu.
The committee, chaired by Babajimi Benson, a lawmaker from Lagos State, was set up by the speaker to screen the nominees in-line with the Armed Forces Act.
It would be recalled that the Service Chiefs include Christopher Musa as Chief of Defence Staff, Taoreed Lagbaja as Chief of Army Staff, Emmanuel Ogalla as Chief of Naval Staff and Hassan Abubakar, as Chief of Air Staff.
In his remarks, the Chief of Defence Staff said the “AFN under my leadership will be people-centric by prioritizing and safeguarding our people and their legitimate way of life as prescribed by the Nigerian Constitution.”
He added, “I am committed to ensuring a conducive and secure environment for the protection of lives and properties for socio-economic activities to thrive.”
The Chief of Army Staff, who also spoke, also assured the lawmakers of his commitment to the welfare of the people under his watch.
Following the remarks, Mr Benson announced that the committee will have a “serious conversation” with the nominees.
