Renowned scholar, Prof Jacinta Opara, appointed to Rwanda’s AIMTDS Governing Council

Renowned African environmental scholar and scientist, Prof Jacinta Opara, has been appointed as a member of the Governing Council/Board of the African Institute of Management, Technology and Development Studies (AIMTDS) in Kigali, Rwanda.

The appointment, which was approved at the Institute’s meeting on July 16, 2024, is expected to bring value to the institution through Prof Opara’s innovation and academic eminence. 

According to the Institute, “a scholar of Prof Opara’s status with a proven track record in higher education and outstanding commitment to fostering learning and research, she is balanced to make a sustainable impact on the Institute and the broader academic community.”

Prof Opara, who is currently the Vice Chancellor of Dominican University, Ibadan-Nigeria, has held various academic and administrative positions across Africa, America, Europe, and Asia. She has supervised several PhD candidates and Masters Students, and has over 200 publications to her credit.

The Institute, which is a leading educational, research, and development institution, is targeted to provide academic leadership, training, research-based evidence, and critical analysis to support policy formulation, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation. 

Over the last 25 years, she has held teaching, research and consulting experiences across Africa, America, Europe and Asia. She rose through the ranks and was promoted to full Professor in 2016 at Kampala International University(KIU). She has held appointments at a number of private and public universities. 

These include: Avance International University(AIU), University of Maiduguri; Federal University, Kashere; Kingsley Ozumba Mbadiwe University(KOMU); Sule Lamido University(SLU);

Nasarawa State University(NSUK) and Ahmadu Bello University(ABU), Zaria-Nigeria where she showcased excellence in her dedication and strong passion for educational development.
