The Ogunsua of Modakeke, His Royal Majesty, Oba Joseph Olubiyi Toriola, Ajibise Ogo 1, has enjoined the sons and daughters of Modakeke both living in the country and in the diaspora to always prioritize the interest of the town in order to contribute their quota towards the development of the community.
Oba Toriola who made this appeal at a grand reception for the immediate-past President of Modakeke Progressive Union(MPU), Mr Julius Odelola Odegbemi at Hillspring Hotel, Modakeke, yesterday, stated that it was imperative for any native of the town to always have it at the back of his mind how he could contribute his quota in any legitimate means on how to make the community better than the way he met it.
The monarch who paid a glowing tribute to Odegbemi for his exemplary performance in the office disclosed that the immediate-past President of the MPU had indeed sacrificed his time and other resources for the sake of his community.
The royal father also acknowledged the contributions of the past presidents of the MPU since its inception in 1978 with a royal blessing and prayer for the new MPU President, Professor Peter Olawuni, to also excel in the office during his tenure.
Oba Toriola who explained that his community has a unique peculiarity stated that it was incumbent on all and sundry of the town’s extraction to fashion out the means of adding a meaningful value to the town.
He stated that he was always happy whenever he realized that the sons and daughters of the town are found in all the sectors of the economy globally.
In his words, “We have no reason not to fast track our development as we now have the wherewithal in terms of material and human resources unlike what was our plight several years back.”
“I am appealing to all the sons and daughters of our community wherever they may be residing to always remember that there is no place like home.”
“You should all be thinking on how you can individually and collectively make a meaningful difference in our community in the overall interest of our people and the town.”
“The event of today should pioneer a formal social means of bringing our people together and celebrate whoever among us has proved to be genuine lover of our community through his actions and inactions”, Oba Toriola stated.
The honouree who was full of gratitude to the organizers of the event, Mr Gbenga Arojo and Chief Dayo Ojo and all the prominent sons and daughters invited to the occasion, attributed his success story in the office to the unalloyed co-operation that he received from the other executive officers of the MPU national.
Odegbemi pledged further that he would be available to serve his community in any capacity in future because of the inspiration he has been receiving from his people.
Many dignitaries paid glowing tributes to the honouree among the galaxy of the eminent sons and daughters of the community that graced the occasion.
