REA promotes women participation in power sector
Rural Electrification Agency, (REA) has promoted women participation in the energy sector through its Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics(STEM) internship under the Energizing Education Programme (EEP).
REA disclosed this in a series of tweets on Monday, 7th.
To this end, the statement indicated that female engineering interns across the country have been actively participating in the construction of mini-grids to provide electricity for rural dwellers.
The statement read,
“As part of our key objectives on gender mainstreaming, women are continuously being encouraged and supported by the REA to take on non-traditional work roles in the energy sector while bringing on novel perspectives to solving real-life energy problems.
Specifically, we have an active Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) Internship Programme under the Energizing Education Programme (EEP) where female students in beneficiary institutions across the nation actively participate in the construction of mini-grids.
“Through the Gender Mainstreaming Initiative of the REA, STEM interns are taken through practical trainings by field professionals at the EEP workshop and training centers (WTCs), and certified upon completion of the internship programme.
“Through a structured system being utilized by the REA, the plan is to continue to increase the number of #womeninenergy with professional and technical expertise across the value chain”.
REA is the federal government agency responsible for catalysing the off Grid market and to increase electricity access to rural and underserved communities through public & private sector engagement.
