Muhammed Kassim, the Deputy Chief Imam, Kafanchan Central Mosque, Kaduna State, has called on Muslim ummah in Nigeria to pray for an end to the security challenges bedeviling the nation.
Kassim stated that the Ramadan period offers an opportunity to seek divine intervention on the issue of banditry and kidnapping that has become rampant in the country.
According to him, the first day of Ramadan was significant as it requires Muslims to pray for themselves, family, immediate community and the country at large.
“The first day of Ramadan signifies that Muslims are united as it shows that we have succumbed to the call of our leader, his eminence, the Sultan of Sokoto.
“We are to pray for ourselves, family, community, local government, state and country at large and remain law abiding citizens,’’ he said
The cleric said Muslims are expected to showcase the beauty of Islam during the holy month by helping the needy and being just and fair in their dealings with others.
“During Ramadan, a Muslim is expected to offer help to the less privileged and the needy and also give food to his neighbors.
“Don’t wait for the rich man or woman to give. If you have N1, 000 in your pocket, bring it out and give 10 per cent which is N100.
“He or she is also expected to be prayerful and act justly and fairly; show humility and honesty in his dealings with people,’’ he added.
He admonished Muslims not to engage in idle talk while fasting but instead read the Holy Quran regularly and be devoted to doing good things.
