The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Kwara State Council has sympathised with the management and staff of the Kwara State Broadcasting Corporation (Radio Kwara) over yesterday’s rainstorm, which wreaked havoc on parts of the station.

The Union also called on Government and stakeholders for quick intervention and assistance to the station for it to bounce back and continue to serve the people of the state.

According to a statement  signed by the Council Chairman and Secretary, Mall Umar Abdulwahab and Dcn. Omotayo Ayanda, “The Union, received the news of the destruction with sadness, it was a clear case of a natural disaster, and therefore called on various government agencies and public-spirited individuals to help provide immediate reahbilitation of the station.

“The Council leadership would have been there physically to sympathise with the management and staff and for assessment of the extent of damages, but could not due to the official engagement at Asaba, Delta State for the National Executive Council meeting of the Union.”

The statement stressed the need for residents of the state capital and the state at large to be vigilant and conscious of the fact that the rainy season has just begun, adding that more attention should be geared towards adequate protection of lives and property in the neighbourhood.

The Union called on members of the public to desist from dumping refuse and other irrelevant items that can hinder easy passage of rain water inside drainages.

It appealed to relevant government agencies to swing into action towards finding palliative measures to the affected victims.
