Quality healthcare delivery remains our priority — Oyo Govt

The Oyo State Deputy Governor, Chief Adebayo Lawal, says qualitative healthcare delivery remains a priority to the administration of Gov. Seyi Makinde.

Lawal made this known on Thursday while flagging off the Measles vaccination exercise in the state.

The exercise included administration of Vitamin A supplement and birth registration campaign in the state.

It was held at Oniyanrin Primary Healthcare Centre, Inalende in Ibadan North West Local Government Area of the state.

The Deputy Governor explained that the present government in the state stands on four pillars, one of which was health. He said that the State Government was doing what it should do toward ensuring that people of the state, especially children, were free of the communicable diseases.

According to him, it is when children are happy that parents too will be happy.

“Therefore, it is important for parents and guardians to bring out their children and wards for measles vaccination,” he said.

Expressing delight for the programme that promotes health of children, Lawal said the state partnership with the World Health Organisation (WHO), United Nations Children Education Funds (UNICEF) and other support organisations in healthcare delivery, was commendable.

He added that the exercise would also be flagged off in the remaining Local Government Areas of the state.

Lawal enjoined parents to take advantage of the opportunity to immunise their children against measles.

In his remarks, the State Commissioner for Health, Dr Bode Ladipo, said that measles had been a major problem facing children.

Ladipo said that the State and Federal Governments and their partners decided to look into the provision of vaccination “to ensure that children under five years were actually well immunised to avoid loss of lives.

“The exercise is symbolic, because it shows the commitment of the state government and more importantly, it demonstrates to our partners that, as a state, we are actually in tandem with goals and aspirations for women and children,” he said.

On behalf of WHO, Dr Isiaka Ayodeji, said the organisation would continue to render support for the promotion of healthcare delivery.

Ayodeji enjoined parents and guardians to maximise the opportunity of the exercise to immunise their children and wards.
